There has been a dozer transport from Longyearbyen to Svea today, 5.2.2010. There are deep traces in Todalen and Gangdalen. Snowmobile drivers must pay attention.
The Governor and Red Cross inform about general risk of avalanche in Spitsbergen.
It has been snowing a lot in the Todalen/Gangdalen area and snowmobilers warn about the risk of avalanches
On Mondag 11th of January Basecamp drove to Isfjord Radio via Grøndalen. There is a lot of snow in Skiferdalen, Grøndalspasset and Kongressdalen, but very little on Colessletta and in the riverbed running down from Skiferdalen to Colesdalen. There is a lot of ice on the mountain sides around Grønfjorden, especially on the eastern side. The ice layer is partly covered by snow and it’s at times very slippery. Be very careful when negotiating the slopes around the fjord. The layer of ice covers the ground high up on the mountain sides and one should keep this in mind when considering the rinsk of avalanches. A thin layer of sea ice has formed in Grønfjorden all the way out to BB.
In the inner part of Gipsdalen there is a lot of water, on top of the river, which may make it difficult to pass through the area right now.
